Financial Ratio Analysis

 

The purpose of this online course is to provide participants with an understanding of the various financial ratios used in Customer Financial Analysis to identify major changes in trends, and relationships; and assist the analyst in the investigation of the reasons underlying those changes.

 

The course consists of ten online sessions, each including:

  • Video and synchronized slide presentation of course content
  • Interactive examples for participants to work through as part of the video presentation
  • Annotated presentation material making it easier for participants to follow along and take accurate notes
  • Outside exercises with annotated solutions enabling the participants to sharpen and solidify the skills acquired in the video lesson
  • An onscreen notepad enabling the student to compose, review, save and print notes as they work through the presentation.
  • Interactive assessment exams enabling the students to test and check themselves on their progress through each session
  • Access to the course instructor and other participants via a non-synchronous interactive discussion board facility that enables them to ask questions and engage in discussions
  • A cumulative final exam on which a passing score would qualify participants for a CRF Certificate of Professional Development

 Session Topics / Objectives 

  1. Overview of Financial Analysis and the DuPont Ratio - how to identify the three main categories of financial ratio analysis and understand the factors affecting each category through the analysis of the DuPont Ratio.
  2. Profitability and Efficiency Ratios - understanding the nature of accounting data as it measures financial performance using financial ratios and how to calculate financial ratios in the area of profitability and efficiency.
  3. Liquidity and Leverage Ratios - how to calculate a variety of liquidity ratios, understand the difference between short and long-term measures of leverage and understand the meaning of different leverage ratio outcomes.
  4. Structure and Performance of Retailers - understanding the financial statement structures and ratio relationships for a variety of retailing operations, and how different financial and economic variables affect financial structure and financial performance of firms in different industries.
  5. Structure and Performance of Distributors - learning how to interpret financial statement structures and ratio relationships for a variety of distribution operations and the financial implications of different distributor business models and economic events.
  6. Structure and Performance of Manufacturers - understanding the financial statement structures and ratio relationships for a variety of manufacturing entities and the financial implications pertaining to different manufacturing business models and economic events.
  7. Structure and Performance of Technology Companies - Understanding the financial statement structures and ratio relationships for a variety of technology companies and the implications pertaining to different business models and economic events.
  8. Structure and Performance of Service Companies - understanding the financial statement structures and ratio relationships for a variety of service companies and understanding how the financial performance of service companies is influenced by different economic dynamics.
  9. Comprehensive Financial Analysis: Part 1- how to conduct a complete financial analysis by performing the necessary steps involved using financial ratios.
  10. Comprehensive Financial Analysis: Part 2- how to conduct a financial analysis of a specific company. Learn how to identify any financial problems in the time period given and consider the solutions that could be offered to remedy those problems. This analysis will be compared to an analysis of a subsequent time period to determine what changes made and to identify the company's prospects for sustainability after this period.

This is a group virtual classroom that can be accessed 24/7 from any internet enabled computer. Students will work at their own pace, but must complete the course in 10 weeks.
